CA Retail Law Summit

The California Retailers Association has partnered with the National Retail Federation for the Inaugural annual CA Retail Law Summit, which will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, 8:00am – 5:00pm PST. CRA and NRF members as well as nonmembers will gather with legal experts to discuss and deep dive on a variety of issues impacting the retail industry in California including litigation threats, privacy, labor and employment matters, Cal/OSHA, and more. Attendees will also receive exclusive updates on California’s legislative and regulatory environment. See below for an overview of the Summit agenda.

Cal/OSHA has lots in store for retailers in the coming year. First, SB 553, the Workplace Violence bill, is likely to be signed by Governor Newsom enacting a long list of new requirements for businesses across the state including training, new procedures, recordkeeping, and more. These new laws are expected to enhance Cal/OSHA enforcement activities across all types of retailers from small businesses to major chain stores. Next, the new indoor heat standard will be adopted in early 2024 requiring policies and procedures for any temperatures above 82 degrees. If that’s not enough, Cal/OSHA is focused on warehouses and inspection and enforcement activities related to all aspects of warehouse operations. This session will feature a broad discussion of these issues and real world solutions for compliance.
