CRA President and CEO Rachel Michelin in Sacramento Business Journal: responds to COVID-19 cases in the workplace

Where Placer and El Dorado counties are seeing workplace cases of Covid-19

Rachel Michelin, CEO of the California Retailers Association, said that while retailers have been “on the forefront of safety,” including with face covering protocols, retailers have faced challenges like other industries when it comes to transmission outside of the workplace. Michelin added that without good contact tracing abilities, it’s difficult to know if people were exposed inside the workplace, or elsewhere. 

“Just like in any industry, you can only do so much, and some of it comes down to personal responsibility,” Michelin said.

Outbreaks can be challenging for the retail industry, as employees are required to stay home if they’ve been exposed to the virus or if they test positive for Covid-19. 

“It’s difficult especially when you have a smaller retailer who may not have a large number of employees,” Michelin said.
